uPVC spraying how much does it cost?
Replacing your existing windows can be a costly, however Dynamic Spray have been saving people money all over the Manchester area for years now. Why replace? When you can respray? this is our slogan and here is why
The average cost in the UK right now for a full house of replacement windows, door, facias and gutters is £9000/£14,500 depending on your style of home and what style of windows and doors you are looking for. The average lifespan of uPVC windows in the UK is 20 years, if your windows are in good condition and only fitted in the last 10 year why would you replace the full unit just to keep in with new fashions.
Dynamic Sprays average job price over the last 5 year is £2500 for a standard 3 bedroom semi detached home. This is a total average saving cost of 80%. Not only that, our coating hold a UV additive. The UKs number one reason for deuteriation of uPVC is UV and emissions. As the uPVC obtains sunlight the polymer chains will break down in the uPVC causing the material to start cracking and become brittle, over time this can effect the integrity of the frame leading to a reduction in the lifespan of the uPVC. Having coatings with UV help protect the window with and extra film of protection, ensuring the coating will aid the original structure from UV.
Are your windows beyond uPVC Spraying ?
This amounts to a number of factors, What is the age and condition of your windows? are they generation 1 uPVC and if so do you have security issues to your home, do your windows have discolouration, is your glass failing or is your vinyl wrap peeling off. As every case is different and so is every window we have give some guidelines below but if you do wish to see more advice you can click contact page and fill out our form and one of our team will call you back in the next 24 hours
- Age and condition: Can you spray old uPVC? yes. Is all old uPVC the same? no. A rule of thumb is the if your windows are 25/30 years old then they may need replacing. There are many things to consider, are you in a high emission area by the road side, is your home taking a strong beating for 25 years from sunlight and UV radiation? if so your windows and door may have already been to far damaged in order for our coatings to protect them. This is not always the case and if you do need some advice or would like our expert opinion then simply click the link above and we will be in touch
- Glass failing: Has you glass failed and become none energy efficient? or, do your windows condensate? That is OK you do not need a new frame and the good news is you can continue with your uPVC spraying quote. Our advice is having you glass replaced first, then get your window sprayed after. We can also help you with glass replacement all you need to do is contact us through our contact page above and we can point you in the right direction.
- Do I have a damaged frame? There are many damages that can occur to uPVC window. We need to establish what uPVC you have. Do you have standard white uPVC or do you have uPVC with a vinyl wrap. White uPVC is easily fixable as you would with a car accident repair we would simply patch repair the damage with filler and the correct sanding equipment, a primer would then be applied before applying our top coats. uPVC with a wrap would be a much more difficult issue, the foil wraps added to uPVC window are there to add a colour and grain effect if the damage needs filling it will be a lot more difficult to replicate the original grain design, for this we would need to see the damage in person to see if it fully repairable.
- Security: Are your windows safe? Back in the early 1980s when uPVC was being introduced, what we call generation one uPVC was being installed all over the UK, this was the first uPVC profile available. As much of a global phenomenon this was it had one massive down fall, the beading strips to secure the glass where on the outside of the windows. This encourages burglars all over the the UK to be able to access your home in under 30seconds and it can be done in silence. If you have generation one uPVC we would always advise that these units changed meaning, we would be reluctant to give you a uPVC spraying quote.
- Discolouration: Has your uPVC faded or turned yellow. Discolouration is caused by UV and a breakdown of the uPVC . The polymer chains will break down in the uPVC causing a yellow substance on the surface. We would need to see the frames for an examination on this but 90% of the time your windows will be able to have uPVC spraying work carried out as it is only the early stages of the breakdown.
What is the uPVC spraying process ?
uPVC was NOT meant to be sprayed. uPVC was designed as an alternative to wooden windows, they where made to be maintenance free offering a energy efficiency. This meant the surface of the frames where made to repel anything and everything to ensure it could keep a clean surface.
Spraying uPVC is one of the hardest materials for coatings to adhere to, thanks to the protective coating industry leaders they have had there scientist look at the chemicals within the uPVC and the coatings they can provide, exploring and making coatings flexible enough to endure expansion and tough enough to endure wear. They have made it possible for us to be able to offer you as our customers our specialist uPVC spraying services but they do come with rigours process that must be used in order for the coatings to last.
The uPVC spraying process
When a uPVC spraying job is about to start at Dynamic spray our main priority is ensuring the house is protected from any over spray this is kept in our mind all day to ensure the job is as clean and professional as possible:
- The first thing we need to do is rip any silicone out of the windows as this should NOT be sprayed at any cost. This is something we have seen by so called ‘spray specialists’ a lot the over years. Silicon does NOT spray and will always need replacing with the new colour of your choice to match the new windows. Our recommended brand of choice is Soudal silicone.
- We will now mask all the internal glass and all the exterior of the frames ensuring our tape is tight at the edges and we have an 18 inch ring of paper around every window. All internal openers are also masked to ensure no fumes enter the house.
- Using our specialist prep clean we clean all the surfaces riding of any contaminants, dirt, roadside emissions, oils and excess silicon.
- With a maroon scotch pad we sand over all of the windows ensuring a good key is being created as the is essential, paying strict attention to the corners and area that are hard to accesses making 100%coverage of the area.
- A final clean is essential removing any dust caused from the sanding process along with using a blow gun to blow away the dust out of areas that will cause issue when spraying.
- A dust coat/grip coat is then applied for two reasons. Firstly at this point we need to ensure that all the contaminates have been eliminated and that an adhesion test is done to make sure we have done our job right in the previous steps. Secondly we are looking for any unwanted reactions caused by contaminants in the air.
- A second coat is then applied with a lot more volume of the coating, this is then left to fully flash off to ensure our layers and being applied nice and evenly.
- Our Final coat/finish coat is then smoothly applied leaving a perfect flawless finish
- Once we have finished with our uPVC spraying and it is fully dry we can remove all the masking paper and apply new silicone into the window frames ensuring a nice even, water tight finish.
Can uPVC spraying be done internally?
Yes, uPVC can be sprayed internally, our most popular colour is changing rose wood to white. The transformation from the rose wood to white is astronomical, customers can not believe how much light the white brings into there homes.
uPVC spraying internally has a lot more problems to occur as the chemicals we are spraying are highly toxic and flammable and they should only be sprayed by a trained professional (with caution). When spraying inside all furniture should be covered and sheeting must be put up. uPVC spraying is highly dangerous and must be extracted by a explosion proof fan. All customers and animals must vacate the house when this service is being carried out for health reasons.
