Anthracite windows
What is the most popular colour uPVC windows in the UK now?
The majority of house holds in the UK right now have white uPVC windows and this has been the most popular colour since 1980s. Rose wood uPVC (brown) coming in at 2nd was seen as luxurious option offering a wood look that became fashionable over the years from 1980s to 2010s but also came at a steeper cost adding up to 30% on the price of white.
However white and rose wood are become extremely dated and customer are realising that grey windows are now the new fashion. Councils have done away with the standard white frame and all social and council housing are being replaced with anthracite windows. The rising interest of anthracite windows has made it the number one seller, taking over white uPVC for the past 10 years.

UKs no1 colour change since white and brown: In 1980 the first uPVC window was installed. Germany introduced uPVC to the UK and it has been none stop ever since, originally the first batches flourished up to around 1980s where white uPVC had been warming the homes of the UK, stripping away the single glazed windows saving heating prices in every estate from lands end to john o groats.
2000s came and a new posh more sophisticated look came in fashion but with it came a hefty price tag, Rose wood. Rose wood commonly known as brown windows kept that wooden look but still had all the quality’s of white uPVC . Offering an elegant, expensive and posh look to your home rose wood became a storm with thousands of orders being placed in the UK every day.
The new fashion icon is here, 2012 hit and Anthracite windows landed the UK. Instantly rose wood has lost its appeal, anthracite windows are flying of the shelf and we are ALL going grey, say goodbye to creams and browns and hello grey windows, grey doors, grey walls and interiors, grey carpets and grey furniture, even grey cars. After 2012 Anthracite’s first release the colours started to flood you can choose black, Chartwell green, golden oak, light greys etc etc. Time has gone by and we are now in 2024 nearly 13 years and anthracite is still ranking 1st place in UK consumer sales. Dynamic spray have sprayed over 5000+ windows and 87% of those windows are anthracite.
Will anthracite paint go out of fashion: We don’t know is the answer to that, anything could happen. One thing we do know is it wont happen over night. The UK have over 50,000 uPVC strips in containers ordered every month from countries that supply uPVC. We don’t see any changes, it is still as popular today as back in 2012.
You now have cheaper options available to you like spraying windows. Council and social housing contractors are now using anthracite windows in more than 60% of the UKs homes. When spraying your windows you get a cost alternative, saving you thousands of pounds, up to 90%. IF your windows went out of fashion they can be sprayed again and again. For the price of replacing your windows you could have changed your colour by spraying up to 9/10 times while keeping the same frames.
Who can spray my windows anthracite: Your at the right place, Dynamic Spray have been Manchester no 1 spraying company for the last 6 years. With a portfolio of over 500+ houses sprayed and over 5000+ single items sprayed. We pride our selves in being experts in our field. In the pictures below we have shown how a professional finish is executed in anthracite paint. The picture to the left shows white uPVC to anthracite windows, the picture to the right shows rosewood to anthracite windows.
Originally white uPVC Originally Rosewood uPVC
The original white uPVC has no grain it is a perfectly smooth surface. This is the most common uPVC and the most difficult to adhere to. Not to worry tho, Dynamic Spray are the solution, with our expert techniques we can create a finish just like above.
Rose wood uPVC has a grain effect built into the surface. Rosewood uPVC is composed of standard uPVC with a foil wrap on the exterior. Out of the two surfaces this is the easier surface for our products to bond to with it being a softer surface. These surfaces look the best once sprayed, as new anthracite uPVC has a grain effect, as you can see in the second picture you can not tell it was sprayed.
