Types of kitchens: Kitchens come in many different textures, styles and materials. Our main materials in the UK for kitchens are wood, veneer and MDF wraps. You may come across stainless steel however we strongly advise against spraying this. All these kitchens need to be treated in a different way in order to maintain good longevity to the paint. You should not spray over wraps in any way, they must always be removed. Here is a list of the best spray paint for kitchen cupboards
DIY and professional uses: For a flawless finish we would advise spraying and not brushing. When it comes to spraying it takes years of practice to perfect the skills for a good finish. Spraying a perfect finish is not easy for a DIY enthusiast to achieve, Knowledge of materials and paints is essential as the viscosity and heat will effect the finish.
3 top quality types of spray paint:
The paints we use can be manipulated to create the finish we want, we can make them dry slower or faster, thin them and make them thicker, all these different techniques are used to create the best possible effect. Here are few different types of paint that can be used when spraying kitchens:
Polyurethane 2k: 2k means 2 part, Polyurethane products are a good all rounder these paints can be used on most things, however you must always look at the TDS for advice. Commonly used polyurethanes include Selemix, Selemix Pro, Kolorbond and Mipa. Polyurethanes have great elasticity and chemical resistance. Some products commonly know as a DTM (Direct to Metal) have made a large appearance on the market for uPVC and kitchen sprayers due to there durability and properties. They take longer to dry but have great gloss retention.
Acrylic 2k: Acrylic 2k also has a hardener as it is a 2k product, very much like the polyurethanes above, 2k acrylics they have great chemical resistance and elasticity properties. There is not a massive amount of difference of use between these two products. Acrylic products dry faster but if looking for a glossy finish you may need extra buffing.
Mass Balance acid catalyst: This is a 2 part 2k system that uses a weak acid to cure the paint also known as AC, normally found in wood finishing products like Morrells or HMG. This is one of our favorite products to use as it is extremely nice to work with and leaves a very good flawless finish to the cupboard doors, MBAC is extremely strong and must only be used by professionals.

What paints should we apply to different materials:
wood: The best spray paint for kitchen cabinets that are wood would be MB Acid Cat as this is specifically for wood finishes but as we established earlier a suitable polyurethane would also be suffice, as it can be sprayed on most things.
veneer: The best spray paint for kitchen cabinets that are made from a veneer would be polyurethane or acrylic. Veneer is a type of plastic that has been wrapped around chipboard which can not be removed, polyurethane and acrylics are great at adhering to different type of plastic once they have been treated properly.
MDF: Usually come in the form of a wrapped kitchen. Wrapped kitchens must not be sprayed over and it must have the wrap removed. Once the wrap is removed we normally end up with some rough looking and rough feeling wood. The wood must be treated and and primed in order to create a nice smooth surface. as MDF is a mixture of resin and fibers from soft and hard wood the best spray paint for kitchen cupboards that are MDF would be any of the above, it would just depend on which you would like using the most or what finish you are looking for on you kitchen cupboards.
